Dignified Disability Care had been given the opportunity to offer two clients to attend iFLY with a complementary flight. iFLY pride themselves on being able to fly those with a disability and understand each case is unique.
Natasha Newman and Emma Dixon put their hands up for the event and went on their iFLY adventure with their support workers Karen Atkinson and Rebecca Green. Natasha and Emma were introduced to their instructor who covered all of the basics during their orientation session in a group with fellow flyers.
Once the girls were briefed they received their flight gear and were suited up in their flight attire and head gear. Emma’s support worker Rebecca said, “the staff were very accommodating and went over and above to assist Emma and Natasha”.
Emma and Natasha were shown into the tunnel by their instructor who provided personal instruction and demonstrated the skills they will learn. Karen, Natasha’s Support Worker said, “It was really great, but so loud in the tunnel for Emma”. Emma decided to sit out the actual iFLY this time and told us later, “It was fun and I was with my friends”.
Natasha got her turn and she loved it!! You can see in the photo she is flying high!!
I asked Natasha what she thought of her experience of iFLY and her response was… “I was really brave! I really enjoyed it! Everyone should have a go!! All you have to do is bend your legs, lift your chin like this, arms out and enjoy”
What a great testimonial of totally enjoying something that you don’t get a chance to do everyday.
At Dignified Disability Care we want to give our participants experiences that are memorable with independence strategies.
